Mike is a Massachusetts and Connecticut licensed forester with a Bachelors degree
in Forestry from the University of Massachusetts. Mike grew up in Hubbardston,
Mass, and now resides in Northfield. He has been a consulting forester with Bay
State Forestry since 2004. Prior to that, Mike worked for the Management Forestry
Program for the Massachusetts Bureau of Forestry. In his position with the
state, Mike learned to develop Access databases that tracked the timber harvests
on state forests. In his current position, Mike maintains a database for
our foresters to collect inventory data in the field, prepare management
plans and keep records of timber harvests and contract information. Mike’s
professional interests include woodlot management, GIS and GPS mapping and
conducting forest inventories. Of particular interest are projects that involve
managing for declining wildlife habitats.
At home Mike enjoys training bird dogs (Vizslas) to compete in region-wide hunt
tests and field trials, going hunting, whitewater kayaking, and enjoying time
with his wife and two girls.
Dan is originally from Madawaska, Maine and holds both an
Associate’s Degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Management from
the University of Maine. He has been with Bay State Forestry Service since 1981 and
holds a Forester’s licenses in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and in Maine. Dan is
certified as a commercial pesticide applicator in New Hampshire and
Massachusetts.
Dan is very active with the Tree Farm program, certifying many of the properties
he works on. He is also active with the N.H. Timberland Owners Association and
is often called upon to testify before the legislature on forestry bills.
Dan serves on many committees pertaining to the forest industry as well. Dan is
an active member of The Society of American Foresters and is an active volunteer
with the N.H. Project Learning Tree.
Dan is married, has four daughters and resides in Francestown, NH. In his spare
time, he enjoys gardening, canning and managing their 31 acre Tree Farm for
firewood, saw timber and recreation.
Link is a Massachusetts native, who holds a Master of Environmental Management
Degree from Duke University. In a former life, he was an eighth-grade earth
science teacher in Durham, NC. He has been with Bay State Forestry Service since 1981. Besides practicing forestry and silviculture on client properties, Link spends a great deal of time in invasive-exotic plant control (see Project section of this website).
He is a Massachusetts licensed pesticide applicator.
Link is chair of the MA Forester Licensing Board, which oversees licensing of
professional foresters in the state. He is a founding member and vice-president
of the Hilltown Land Trust, Inc., a land conservation trust which serves a 13-town area in the western Massachusetts hilltowns.
Link is married, has three children and resides in Williamsburg, MA. In
his spare time, he enjoys skiing, kayaking, growing apples and cutting
firewood on the family’s 49 acre woodlot.
Jeffrey Hutchins joined Bay State Forestry Service
in the fall of 2010 after graduating from the University of Massachusetts
Amherst with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry with a minor in Wildlife
and Fisheries Conservation. He comes to Bay State Forestry Service having spent multiple summers
working for organizations such as Harvard Forest and the Massachusetts
Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit.
Jeffrey is an inspector for the American Tree Farm System and is a licensed pesticide
applicator in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He is also an active member of the Society
of American Foresters, serving on the Executive Committee of the New England SAF as Chair
of Membership. Jeffrey is an avid skier, an active member of the National Ski Patrol and
is certified with the Professional Ski Patrol Association.
Chris Powell is another long- time veteran forester. He graduated from the University
of Massachusetts with a B.S. in Forestry in 1972 and began working in the industry as
a forester for Kelly Hardwood Corporation of Pittsfield, MA and then as a partner and
forester for Evermore Lumber Company until 1984 when he joined Vegetation Control
Service, Inc. and Bay State Forestry Service.
Chris has strong local interests and ties and served as a town police officer in
Worthington for 16 years. He recently retired from law enforcement as chief of police
for Hinsdale, MA. Chris was elected to the Worthington Board of Selectmen in 2000,
a post he still holds.
Christopher Powell is an ISA certified arborist and holds pesticide applicator’s
licenses in Massachusetts, Vermont and Connecticut.
Mike Powers earned his Bachelor of Science in Forestry
Science from the University of Maine in 1994, He has been a forester in the
Northeast for over 15 years, beginning his career as a field forester for Wagner
Forest Management. Working with Wagner for 10 years, Mike worked in central New
York, southern and central Vermont, northern Maine, northern New Hampshire and
Ontario, Canada. Mike joined Bay State Forestry Service 5 years ago and does most of his
work in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Mike is married and lives in Henniker,
NH.

licensed pesticide applicator in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, a Certified
Tree Farm inspector and has been a member of the Society of American Foresters
for 15 years.
Eric Radloff graduated from the University of New
Hampshire in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry and Forestry
Management. He is a Certified Tree Farm Inspector and holds Pesticide
Applicators licenses in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Eric Joined the
Bay State Forestry Service in 2009, and is a Member of the Society of American Foresters.
Eric resides in Milford, NH. Eric has always been interested in the green
industries, forestry and agriculture. Growing up he was active in 4H, and was a member of the
Woodsmen Team at UNH.
